The process of watching seeds grow is a wonderful activity for children, especially when the seeds are sprouting quickly. Alfalfa ( Medicago Sativa) is an easy to cultivate seed that will develop in the next week. Sprinkle a little amount of alfalfa seeds over a damp paper towel and watch their seeds sprout and grow.

You'll require:
A packet of seeds from alfalfa (about 1.5g)
a saucer or small plate
Three paper towels
an air mister, or a small water jug

How to grow
Take 3 pieces of paper towel, then lay them on top each other flat on a table.
Take the water off the plate. The paper towel needs to be dampened, but seeds shouldn't be floating in the water.
Place the seeds in a uniform manner on the towel.
To avoid the paper towel drying out, put it on a sunny windowill and fill it with water. To dampen seeds, make use of a spray bottle or mister to do so. Or, gently add water to the saucer by using a cup or small jug.
Make sure to check your seeds each day to see how they're developing.

Troubleshooting
Alfalfa seeds are very easy to cultivate and should begin to germinate within 2-6 days. Here are some signs to keep an eye on should your seeds not sprout within this time.

Too dry. Seeds require water to develop. Alfalfa seeds absorb around their own weight in water before they germinate, and look swollen. Seeds that are too dry do not germinate. Add more water to the plate to ensure that the seeds are wet but not floating on the surface. You can also soak your seeds overnight. Just make sure to drain them and rinse them thoroughly before placing them to a towel.

Too moist: Seeds that are too wet may cause their roots and their shoots to turn brown before they develop. The seeds could also turn mouldy. It's okay for the paper towel to be damp but the seeds should not be floating in water. Drain excess water from the plate each time you mist or water your seeds.

Too hot or cold: تقاوى برسيم حجازى The best temperature for alfalfa's growth is 20-25degC. If you're cultivating your seeds in winter, you can put them in a cool place inside. You may need to be more frequent in watering your seeds if you grow them in temperatures that are extremely hot. They'll dry out faster.
